Prof Mark McDermott celebrates 25 years at UEL

The School of Psychology has marked 25 years of service from Professor Mark McDermott. At a celebratory luncheon to mark this career milestone, Mark, who joined UEL in November 1989, was presented by the School with a guitar to celebrate his long service. He said, “Really, this is not my 25th year, but my 36th year in psychology, starting as an undergraduate in Cardiff in 1978. So, for three and a half decades I have been continuously fascinated by psychology, and this is fuelled I think by a never-ending need to understand, to know why we do what we do. It is a really inexhaustible subject area. And that keeps me going...and going and going....”

On Friday, November 28 BBC Radio London host Vanessa Feltz discussed the retail phenomenon of Black Friday on her morning show, and invited Mark to shed some light on what might be prompting Brits to join into this undignified orgy of materialism.

(Hear Mark's interview in full here (from 01:02 – 01.15) available to 'Listen Again' on the BBC i-player until 28/12/14.
